74th GEA Search and Rescue Exercise – Ankara

74th GEA Search and Rescue Exercise was held in Ankara between 28 February and 1 March.

The GEA Humanitarian Aid team also participated in the exercise for GAT (GEA Assessment Team) and international operations team members.

REDOG, a dog search team from Switzerland, and Shelter Box, a humanitarian aid worker from England, participated in the 3-day theoretical and practical work.

The exercise started with theoretical training on the first day. An alarm was given at night and the operational team members moved to the area where the debrises were located in Mamak district, which is about 1,5 hours away.

After reaching the area, the victims who were placed in various debrises were searched by 3 search dogs and 7 people by the REDOG team.

The victims found were rescued by international team members as a result of the work that continued until the morning.

On the second day of the exercise, Shelter Box who worked especially on shelter in disaster areas, gave various training throughout the day to our humanitarian aid team.

The second alarm was given at night, and search and rescue works were carried out in the debrises until the morning.

On the third day of the exercise, the camp was completed after the evaluation meetings.
