Right after M6.4 earthquake hit Albania on 26th November, at 03:40 (local time), GEA team mobilized to the disaster zone. Together with our partner REDOG (Swiss Disaster Dog Association) GEA team arrived at Tirana International Airport at 21:35 local time and directly went to the disaster region Durres. 18 team members and 4 search dogs conducted search and rescue activities on 4 different debris sites.
Upon request of UN, one of our experts joined USAR Coordination Cell (UCC) to support overall coordination of the operations, through the day.
On 27th November, GEA team conducted search activities at Tropicana Hotel. After the assessment of other buildings in the region, necessarry informations were given to local authorities and operation is finalized.
We extend our condolences to whole Albania and to Albanians whose relatives lost their lives. Wishing soonest recovery for those injured in the earthquake.
