Nepal Earthquake Operation

April 26
GEA Team started its preparations right after the 7.9 magnitude earthquake that occurred in Nepal on April 25, 2015. The 13-person operation team reached Kathmandu with flight number TK726, which took off at 01:00 at night.
Our GEA Search and Rescue Team, one of the first teams to reach the disaster area, was taken by soldiers at the airport to Sitapaila, one of the regions where the destruction took place.
On the first day in the region, a search was carried out in 11 wreckages. Following the searches, the first contact with the victim was made at 21.30 local time in a wreckage, where the victim was notified.

April 27
After 6 hours of rescue work, 22-year-old Bikram Chepang was rescued alive at 02:58 am from the wreckage.
Afterwards, as a result of the searches made in 3 buildings in the region, another live victim was reached at 1:00 pm. 21-year-old John Keisi was pulled alive from the wreckage after a 13-hour working cordially with Chinese Search and Rescue team CISAR.
Our team continues its search and rescue efforts upon the notices.

April 28
In the morning, the Swiss Dog Search Team REDOG arrived with 6 team members and 3 search dogs to support the team.
Upon the notifications, the two teams acting together continued their searches by going to the Jorpati and Kapan region, where the hotels are mostly located.
The GEA and REDOG Teams kept technical searching with dogs in 5 different debris areas in the region.
In the following hours, the teams split and reached the reported places, and the work continued throughout the day. The team, which evaluated all reports, completed their work and returned to the camp center at 9.30 pm. Upon a notification received at 10:30 pm, the team went to the Gongabu area for a search. After the work was completed teams returned to the camp at 3:00 am.

April 29
The GEA Team evaluated the notices received throughout the day and carried out technical searches in the wreckage with REDOG.

April 30
Early in the morning, the team started to list the needs for humanitarian aid in the region.
Drinking water was distributed in priority regions.
Food, water, hygiene materials, chlorine tablets, medical supplies and toy packages for children were prepared to be distributed in the following days and the necessary logistical planning was made.

May 1-2
Humanitarian aid materials were distributed to families in need in the camps in and around Kathmandu and in those villages heavily affected by the earthquake.
Aid packages prepared for a total of 300 families were delivered to them under the coordination of local authorities.
The GEA Team made necessary interventions by performing health screening in the regions visited and medical supplies to use in hospitals in the region were delivered to the authorities.

May 3
Team members who completed rescue and humanitarian aid studies in the area, returned to Turkey with TK727 flight.
