75th GEA Search and Rescue Exercise was carried out on August 26-30 in Istanbul.
In the exercise, which was attended by 149 GEA Volunteers from Istanbul, Bursa, Ankara, Izmir, Eskişehir, Adana, Izmit, Van and 32 participants from France, Switzerland, Russia, Nepal, Chile, El Salvador, theoretical and practical trainings were held.
The exercise started with theoretical training on August 26-28 at GEA Training Center and at Istanbul Altunizade Cultural Center.
During the training, the experiences of the Nepal Earthquake and Operation were conveyed. Training was held on reading collapsed buildings, precision in operations, GEA Team Structure, field coordination in disasters, and debris area management.
The search and rescue exercise, which was going to last for 36 hours, started in 4 different locations consisting of a factory building, a site and a total of 14 building debris in 2 different neighborhoods.
Team members in the role of survivors were placed in the buildings, which were destroyed beforehand by our wreck and simulation preparation teams.
Tunneling in the wreckage, bringing down from a height with rope, breaking works in narrow spaces, debris cleaning works, approach to wreckage, search studies with electronic devices, searches with dogs, debris marking works, supporting and bringing down victims on stretchers from a height were carried out…
GEA Humanitarian Aid Team carried out the main camp installation simultaneously with the field works. They received training on the main camp set-up, camp set-up, logistics, first aid and humanitarian aid criteria and sensitivities.
Young GEA Team, consisting of young people between the ages of 14 and 17, received theoretical and practical training in the exercise.
A human life is precious, and we, who are fighting for his survival, have something to say to the recent acts of terrorism in our country!
